KATHMANDU: Automobile companies are readying new models as hybrid momentum builds in India in line with the global trend. Over 10 new hybrid models are expected to enter the Indian market in the coming days.
Leading automobile companies like Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia, Renault and Nissan preparing to introduce new hybrid offerings for the Indian market.
Mahindra is planning to launch hybrid variants of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The company is reportedly introducing the XUV 3XO with a series-parallel hybrid system, while the BE6 and XUV e9 models will be equipped with range-extender hybrid engines.
Series-parallel hybrid combines the features of both series and parallel hybrid systems, allowing the engine and electric motor to operate independently or in conjunction to drive the wheels.
French automaker Renault is planning to launch its upcoming third-generation Duster with a strong hybrid system.
Hyundai, on the other hand, is set to launch hybrid versions of the next-generation Creta and Palisade SUV. It is also bringing a new seven-seater SUV with hybrid powertrain. Sources say the company is likely to offer strong hybrid systems in compact SUVs like the Creta and Alcazar and plug-in hybrid systems in larger SUVs.
Another Korean automaker Kia is planning to bring the next-generation Seltos with a strong hybrid powertrain. Kia is planning to launch a new seven-seater SUV, codenamed MQ4i, which will also come with a hybrid powertrain.
Also jumping on the bandwagon is French automaker Renault which is planning to launch its upcoming third-generation Duster with a strong hybrid system. Built on the CMF-B platform, the new Duster will feature a 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with a hybrid system powered by a 1.2 kWh battery pack.
Renault’s partner Nissan has also confirmed that it is working on five- and seven-seater SUVs that will come with strong hybrid systems.
