KATHMANDU: The price of the BMW iX1 electric SUV has increased sharply in the Nepali market. The entry-level BMW EV has become Rs 13 million more expensive after the latest revision.
Previously priced at Rs 19.996 million, the iX1 now costs Rs 32.996 million. The luxury SUV is imported from Germany and sold in Nepal by Laxmi Premium Motors.

The price hike comes after changes in the government’s new budget. Earlier, EV taxes were based on motor power, including the iX1’s 180 kW setup. Now, taxes are calculated based on the vehicle’s CIF value. This has led to a major jump in cost.
Under the new policy for FY 2026/27, EVs attract 20% customs duty and a “Green Infrastructure Fee” ranging from 2.5% to 130%. Vehicles with a CIF value above Rs 5 million fall into higher tax brackets. The iX1 has been heavily affected by this rule.
Laxmi Premium Motors has also increased prices of other BMW EV models. The company has not disclosed the full revised price list yet.
