KATHMANDU: The BYD Dolphin has crossed one million units in global sales. It is now the fastest electric hatchback in China to reach this mark.

Launched in August 2021, the Dolphin is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0. The 2025 model in China comes in four trims, priced from 14,100 USD to 18,300 USD. It offers a range of 420 km or 520 km (CLTC). The car uses a high-strength steel body and has a 2700 mm wheelbase.

It comes with two motor options: a 70 kW motor with a 44.9 kWh Blade battery, and a 150 kW motor with a 60.48 kWh Blade battery. Fast charging takes about 30 minutes from 30% to 80%.

The cabin features a 5-inch digital cluster and a 10.1-inch or 12.8-inch touchscreen. Higher trims include 50W wireless phone charging. The Dolphin also gets BYD’s DiPilot system with key ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

The Dolphin is offered in both Left-Hand Drive (LHD) and Right-Hand Drive (RHD) versions, depending on the country’s traffic system.

In Nepal, BYD Dolphin is offered by Cimex Inc. with a 70 kW motor and a 44.9 kWh Blade Battery. The BYD Dolphin entered Nepal’s electric vehicle market in September 2023 as a feature-rich yet budget-friendly hatchback.

Its stylish design, practical cabin, and capable performance helped it gain quick traction among buyers. The Dolphin continues to be a strong performer in Nepal.
