KATHMANDU: BYD celebrated the rollout of its 14 millionth new energy vehicle at its passenger car plant in Camacari, Brazil, marking another milestone in its global expansion.
The event was attended by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Chinese Ambassador Zhu Qingqiao, Bahia Governor Jeronimo Rodrigues, and BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu.
During the ceremony, Mr. Wang handed over the 14 millionth vehicle — a BYD Song Pro — to President Lula as a gift. President Lula praised BYD’s investment in Brazil, saying the new plant restores hope and opportunity to the people of Camaçari and Bahia.
BYD has been active in Brazil for over 11 years and now has more than 170,000 car owners in the country. The company has also led Brazil’s new energy vehicle market for two consecutive years.
mr. Wang announced that BYD will provide 30 electric vehicles for COP30, which will be held later this year in Belem. These vehicles will later be donated to local schools and public institutions.
In recognition of BYD’s contribution, the main road in front of its Brazilian plant has been named “BYD Road,” becoming the first BYD Road in South America.
BYD says it will continue expanding globally with a focus on innovation, localization, and sustainable mobility.
