Carmakers announce big price drops after GST 2.0 rollout in India

KATHMANDU: Car buyers in India will benefit as leading automakers like Mahindra, Tata, Hyundai, Toyota, Renault, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have announced major price cuts. The reductions come after the GST Council’s decision to lower tax rates under GST 2.0.

The reductions vary across models, with savings ranging from a few thousand to several hundred thousand.

Mahindra has cut prices of its models by up to 156,000 Indian rupees from September 6. The Bolero Neo, XUV 3XO, Thar, Scorpio Classic, Scorpio N and XUV700 now cost between 101,000 and 156,000 Indian rupees less.

Tata Motors has announced a price cut of up to 145,000 Indian rupees across its models. The Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, Punch, Nexon, Curvv, Harrier and Safari are now cheaper, with reductions between 65,000 and 155,000 Indian rupees.

Hyundai Motor India announced that it will pass on the full benefit of recent GST reforms, cutting prices across its range from September 22. The Tucson gets the biggest reduction of 240,000 Indian rupees, while other models like the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, Exter, i20, Venue, Verna, Creta and Alcazar will see discounts from 60,000 to over 120,000 Indian rupees.

Toyota has slashed the prices of its models by up to 349,000 Indian rupees, effective from September 22. The Fortuner, Legender, Hilux, Vellfire, Camry, Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross have all become cheaper, with benefits ranging from 101,000  to 349,000 Indian rupees.

Renault has also announced a price cut across its model range from September 22, with customers able to book at the reduced rate from September 6. The Kiger gets the highest benefit of 96,395 Indian rupees.

BMW is passing the benefit of the GST rate cut to customers, with prices being reduced by up to 890,000 Indian rupees.

Similarly, Mercedes-Benz cuts car prices in India by up to 1.1 million Indian rupees after GST 2.0.

Maruti has not officially announced any price reductions yet, but cuts ranging from 40,000 to 225,000 Indian rupees are expected following the implementation of GST 2.0.
