KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has unveiled its election manifesto targeting the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
The party has outlined commitments centered on good governance, employment generation, and infrastructure development. Large-scale transport and connectivity projects dominate the infrastructure agenda.
CPN has pledged to upgrade major national highways to four lanes. These include the East-West Highway, Mid-Hill Highway, Postal Highway, Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast Track, and key North-South corridors such as the Koshi, Trishuli, Kaligandaki, Karnali and Mahakali corridors. The Gaddachauki-Chisapani road section has also been included in the four-lane expansion plan.
The manifesto states that the construction of additional expressways, highways and tunnel roads will be accelerated in different parts of the country.
The party has also committed to connecting all local level headquarters with black-topped roads. In the Kathmandu Valley, the outer ring road project will be expedited, while ring road construction in major cities across the country will be prioritized.
Railway development is another key component of the manifesto. Proposed projects include the Kerung-Kathmandu railway, Kathmandu-Pokhara line, Kathmandu-Lumbini railway, and the East-West railway project.
In addition, the party has pledged to move forward with metro rail and monorail systems in Kathmandu. Mass transit systems will also be introduced in major cities to improve urban mobility.
CPN has announced plans to complete the construction of the proposed Nijgadh International Airport in Bara within five years. The party also plans to upgrade currently non-operational airports across the country and bring them into use. If revival is not feasible, alternative uses will be explored.
The manifesto further proposes development of infrastructure for water transport in major rivers, with plans to bring inland waterways into operation.
