KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has reopened online applications for new driving licenses after a two-month halt caused by a server outage during the Gen Z Movement.

According to Keshav Khatiwada, Director and Chief of the IT Branch at the department, the new application system became fully operational from Sunday. The server had been repaired and partially resumed service on November 2, but only for limited tasks such as license renewals.

Now, new applications have started from the Radheradhe and Thulo Bharyang offices within the Kathmandu Valley, while offices in other provinces are also gradually resuming the process. “Service has started from Radheradhe and Thulo Bharyang.

Preparations are ongoing to open applications from Ekantakuna and Chabahil as well,” Khatiwada told MeroAuto.

Applicants can fill out new license forms online through https://applydlnew.dotm.gov.np. The main DoTM website remains closed as the Ministry of Information Technology works to standardize all government portals.

No quota has been set for new applications yet. The department will decide later based on the daily volume of submissions.

Meanwhile, most transport offices have also resumed license trials that were suspended during the system outage.

Under normal conditions, the DoTM processes around 5,000 to 7,000 new and renewal applications daily across 42 transport offices nationwide.
