KATHMANDU: Road expansion work on the eastern segment of the Muglin-Pokhara road section of Prithvi Highway is nearing completion.

The second blacktopping has begun in the Bagbazaar area near Tanahun district headquarters, Damauli. Major intersections in Damauli, including Main Chowk, Safa-Sadak Chowk and Tarkari Line Chowk, have already been blacktopped, while work is progressing in one direction.

While work on most of the eastern segment of the road has already been completed, progress in the Damauli stretch was delayed due to a delay in the removal of houses and structures along the road’s right of way.

The project has so far achieved 82.95% physical progress, with final blacktopping completed on 33.56 km of the four-lane road and 3.2 km of the two-lane road.

China Communication Construction Company has been handling the construction works, which began in April 2021.Originally built in 1969, the highway, which connects Kathmandu with Pokhara, is being upgraded into a four-lane road with funding from the Asian Development Bank to accommodate growing traffic. The contract for the eastern section is valued at approximately Rs 6.21 billion.
