KATHMANDU: The global automotive industry has seen a wave of leadership changes, with at least nine major automakers appointing new chief executives within the past year.

Companies including Toyota Motor Corporation, Stellantis, Nissan Motor Co., Renault Group and Volvo Cars have all undergone leadership transitions.

The leadership changes come as the auto industry faces multiple challenges, including rising trade tariffs, slowing demand in key markets and stronger competition from Chinese EV manufacturers such as Xiaomi, BYD and Geely.

Automakers are also under pressure to accelerate electrification while managing high investment costs in EV platforms, battery technology and software-based vehicle systems.

Industry analysts say the recent leadership changes reflect the sector’s shift towards electric and technology-focused mobility.

Automakers are increasingly looking for executives who can manage digital transformation, strategic partnerships and cost restructuring as global competition intensifies.
