KATHMANDU: Indian automotive giant Mahindra is set to unveil its new vehicle platform, the New Flexible Architecture (NFA), on August 15, coinciding with India’s 78th Independence Day.

According to the company, the platform is engineered to accommodate multiple powertrains, including gasoline, diesel, hybrid and electric variants. While Mahindra has used this date in recent years to launch new models, this year’s event will focus exclusively on concept vehicles built on the NFA.

According to Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director of Mahindra’s auto sector, the NFA will serve as the base for Mahindra’s vehicles from 2027 onwards. To support this rollout, Mahindra is expanding its Chakan plant in Maharashtra to produce up to 120,000 units annually on the new platform.

The new platform is expected to feature a monocoque chassis, which allows for improved flexibility and efficiency across different vehicle segments. While there is speculation that the next-generation Bolero could be built on this architecture, Mahindra has said that no production vehicles using the new platform will be released before 2027.

Mahindra plans to launch 17 new vehicles by 2030, including seven internal combustion engine SUVs (two facelifts), five electric passenger vehicles, and five light commercial vehicles (including two EVs). In 2026 alone, the company plans to launch seven new models across various segments.

The new platform is also designed with upcoming regulatory changes in mind. With Phase III of India’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards expected in 2027, Mahindra estimates that 25% of its portfolio will need to be electric.

Mahindra also continues to expand its presence in international markets such as South Africa, Nepal and Australia with a focus on advanced and sustainable vehicle solutions.
