KATHMANDU: Mahindra has introduced the UDO all-electric autorickshaw for the last-mile mobility segment at an introductory price of 3, 58,999 Indian rupees (ex-showroom). The new model is built on a mono-coque chassis, which Mahindra says improves structural strength and durability.

The design of the UDO is inspired by an airplane, which is also reflected in its name; ‘UDO’ means “to fly” in Hindi. The autorickshaw features a boxy shape with flat surfaces and sharp lines.

It gets a steeply raked windshield, an upright front fascia with bold headlamps, and vertical tail lamps. The rear panel carries embossed Mahindra lettering.

Mahindra claims the UDO focuses strongly on driver comfort. The pilot seat is said to be 20 percent thicker than rivals, which may help reduce fatigue during long working hours. The rear seat is wider and offers improved legroom and headroom for passengers.

Powering the UDO is an 11.7 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with an electric motor producing 13.4 BHP and 52 Nm of torque. It delivers an ARAI-certified range of 265 km on a single charge and has a top speed of 55 km/h.

The electric auto rickshaw offers three driving modes; Range, Ride, and Race. It also comes equipped with regenerative braking, a first-in-segment reverse throttle, Hill Hold Assist, and a Creep function, making it suitable for urban and semi-urban operations.
