KATHMANDU: Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce a new midsize SUV named the Escudo in the Indian market.
The launch is expected to take place on September 3, 2025, according to media reports.
The Escudo will be a 5-seater SUV positioned between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara. It will be sold through Maruti’s Arena dealership network.
The SUV is expected to offer a strong value-for-money proposition. It will compete with popular models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Engine details have not been officially confirmed. However, the Escudo could share powertrain options with the Grand Vitara. This includes a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre hybrid.
Notably, Maruti trademarked the Escudo name in India last year. In Japan, Suzuki uses the Escudo nameplate for the Vitara SUV. If the name is retained, the Escudo will be one of two SUVs Maruti plans to launch in 2025.
The other is the all-electric eVX, expected to debut as the e-Vitara in India.
