KATHMANDU: Sales of the BYD Sealion 7 electric SUV will officially begin in Nepal on Thursday.
Cimex Inc, the authorized distributor of BYD vehicles in Nepal, is introducing the Sealion 7 as the company’s second SUV in the local market following the success of the Atto 3. Although the company had initially planned to launch the vehicle on July 4, only blind bookings were opened due to some technical delays. With those issues now resolved, the company is beginning full-scale sales on Thursday.
The Sealion 7 is a larger and more advanced electric vehicle. It is 4,830 mm long, 1,925 mm wide and 1,620 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,930 mm. The version sold in Nepal comes with a 71.8 kWh battery pack.
First revealed at the NADA Auto Show last year, the Sealion 7 is entering the Nepali market nearly eleven months after its unveiling. Built using BYD’s Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, the SUV is based on the company’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo.
The SUV is expected to be priced at approximately Rs 7.5 million in the Nepali market.
The Sealion 7 features BYD’s DiSus-C Intelligent Damping Body Control System, which includes adaptive suspension that automatically adjusts based on road conditions. It is also equipped with the D-Pilot 100 (God’s Eye) Advanced Driver Assistance System, which incorporates twelve ultrasonic sensors, five mmWave radars, and eleven omnidirectional cameras for enhanced safety and driving support.
Inside, the Sealion 7 offers a premium cabin with 128-color ambient lighting. It has ventilated seats with a massage function, a newly designed four-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen. Other notable features include voice control, a crystal gear selector, a 220-volt power outlet suitable for laptops, NFC-enabled keyless entry, a 12-speaker audio system, a 50-watt wireless phone charger, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD), an electrochromic panoramic sunroof and luxurious Napa leather seats.
The Sealion 7 is being introduced in a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant, powered by a 100 kW electric motor. Due to its relatively smaller motor size, the SUV is expected to be priced at approximately Rs 7.5 million in the Nepali market.
