KATHMANDU: The hatchback segment in Nepal is gaining momentum with new electric options. Among the recent entries, Nammi 01 has been generating buzz. Earlier, the Tata Tiago EV had already created strong interest in this category.

Now, Nammi 01 faces fresh competition from BYD’s ATTO 1, a hatchback that is also known as the Seagull in China.

In Nepal, the ATTO 1 is distributed by Cimex Inc., while MAW Vriddhi Motors, under the MAW Group, and is the official distributor for the Nammi brand, part of the Chinese automotive group Dongfeng.

With both models now available in the market, car buyers are actively comparing the two. Here’s a closer look at how the Nammi-01 and ATTO 1 differ.

Battery and range

The top variant of the Nammi 01 (E3) is equipped with a 42.3 kWh battery, offering a range of 317 km on a single charge, based on WLTP testing standards.

In comparison, the BYD ATTO 1 comes with a 38.88 kWh battery that delivers a range of 300 km, also as per WLTP.

Price comparison

In terms of pricing, the two are quite close. The top variant of the ATTO 1 is priced at Rs 3.295 million while the Nammi E3 is currently offered at Rs 3.399 million, after a reduction from its original price of Rs 3.599.

That makes the ATTO 1 Rs 104,000 more affordable than the Nammi 01.

Motor and performance

Both models come with electric motors under 50 kW, aligning with government tax policies for lower-powered EVs. The Nammi 01 offers a 49.5 kW motor with 160 Nm of torque, while the ATTO 1 delivers 45 kW and 135 Nm of torque.

Size and dimensions

The Nammi 01 is slightly larger in size, measuring 4,030 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height. The ATTO 1 measures 3,990 mm, 1,720 mm and 1,590 mm, respectively.

Both have a five-seater capacity, but Nammi 01 leads in wheelbase with 2,660 mm, compared to 2,500 mm in ATTO 1.

Safety features

When it comes to safety, BYD ATTO 1 stands out with six airbags as standard. In contrast, Nammi-01 comes with two airbags.

However, Nammi-01 includes advanced driver-assistance features such as a 360-degree camera, lane keep assist and front collision warning, giving it a more tech-forward safety package.

Both models feature disc brakes on all four wheels.

Final thoughts

The Nammi 01 brings a premium touch to the hatchback space with its design, features and advanced tech. Its price places it in close competition with other urban hatchbacks.

On the other hand, the ATTO 1 positions itself as a practical city car with strong brand backing, wide service coverage, and a slightly more accessible price.

For buyers, the choice may come down to preference, whether it’s advanced safety and features with Nammi, or brand assurance and value with BYD.
