KATHMANDU: Japanese automobile company Nissan has said that it would sell electric vehicles made in its China plant to South Asian, Middle Eastern and other emerging markets.
The company will begin exporting from China starting 2026.
The decision means Nissan’s China-made electric vehicles will also be available in the Nepali market.
Nissan has also taken a strategy of expanding its sales and service network in the Middle East and South Asia. The Japanese automaker, which is grappling with financial challenges, is betting big on China manufacturing to turn its fortunes around.
EVs are often seen as synonymous with China, as low production costs and advancements in battery, motor and EV technology there have made Chinese EVs popular all over the world.
Nissan will begin exports with its N7 model, which it developed in collaboration with Dongfeng. The N7 has received positive feedback in the Chinese market where its price starts from $16,450.
Nissan has yet to confirm which other models will be introduced in international markets. The chances of Nissan exporting EVs developed by Dongfeng with its badging are also high, according to news reports.
