KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has introduced an online system for registering, paying revenue, and renewing permits for foreign tourist vehicles entering the country through land routes.

The Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance has brought the Temporary Importation of Vehicles (TIV) service into a digital platform. The system was officially launched by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle.

With this update, Indian tourists and third-country travelers entering Nepal via India can now submit vehicle details online and pay applicable fees digitally. Earlier, vehicles had to complete the process physically at border customs points.

The new system allows users to declare vehicle details online before entry, complete revenue payment through digital platforms or bank counters, and verify documents at customs points using a QR code. It also enables online renewal of the permitted stay duration without requiring a return visit to the border.

After payment, users receive a QR code, which must be shown at the customs checkpoint. The same code allows vehicle movement within Nepal during the approved period.

According to the Customs Department, the system improves transparency and reduces delays at border points. It is currently applicable to vehicles entering from India and other third countries, and can also be extended to northern borders if needed.

The service is available through the department’s official website under the TIV module.
