KATHMANDU: Traffic police conducted a sudden check campaign at various locations across Kathmandu Valley on Monday morning.
The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, in collaboration with its subordinate units, inspected vehicles at several locations. During the operation, action was taken against 103 drivers who violated traffic rules.
The checks mainly focused on public vehicles, water tankers, garbage trucks, ambulances and school buses.
During the inspection, 13 drivers were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Of these, 12 drivers driving public vehicles were taken into custody and sent to various police offices for necessary legal action.
These included seven bus drivers and one each of water tankers, high-speed microbuses, force vehicles, mini trucks and garbage trucks.
The traffic police said that this sudden check is expected to help reduce road accidents, especially during the morning hours.
