KATHMANDU: Kathmandu’s traffic police have recovered 51 stolen motorcycles and scooters from various locations across the Valley and returned them to their owners.
At a handover event held on Thursday at the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Acting Chief DIG Om Prasad Adhikari and Traffic Police Chief SSP Navaraj Adhikari jointly handed over 33 motorcycles and 18 scooters to the rightful owners.
According to the Traffic Police Office, the vehicles were found during search operations launched after receiving complaints from the public. Some two-wheelers had original number plates, while others were using fake plates.
The vehicles were recovered from areas including Gongabu, New Bus Park, Balaju, Sitapaila, Ranibari, Bouddha, Balkumari, Koteshwor, Kandaghari, Putalisadak, Anamnagar, Singha Durbar, Maligaun, Gaththaghar, and Lubhu.
Police have also arrested 19 individuals involved in vehicle theft. Nine stolen motorcycles were seized during the arrests. The suspects have been sent to various police units for further action.
Traffic police have urged the public to take safety measures to prevent theft. They recommend parking in secure areas and using wheel locks, chain locks, handle locks, disc locks, and alarm systems. They also advise avoiding isolated locations.
If a vehicle goes missing, owners can call Traffic Police Hotline 103, Nepal Police Hotline 100, or file a report at the nearest police station.
