SHANGHAI: Toyota has unveiled its latest electric offering, the bZ5 crossover SUV, at the Auto Shanghai.
Pre-sale of the new model has already begun with an introductory price of $17,800.
Manufactured by FAW Toyota, the vehicle represents the Japanese automaker’s push to combine its reputation for reliability with next-generation EV technology.
The car, which is marketed with a tagline ‘Give Me Five’, has been built on the TNGA platform and incorporates several breakthrough features. The electric SUV delivers an impressive 630 km range (CLTC standard) powered by a 200 kW electric motor. Toyota, however, has not disclosed details about its battery capacity.
The bZ5 stands out with its Momenta 5.0 Intelligent Driving System, which offers Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities. The system utilizes 33 sensors to enable features like urban driving assistance, enhanced lane keeping and advanced autonomous parking functions.
The vehicle is 4,780 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,880 mm, which positions it as a spacious contender in its segment. The bZ5 comes loaded with premium features like 21-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, customizable 256-color ambient lighting, and a unique ‘nap mode’ for optimal passenger comfort.
Toyota also launched its bZ7 sedan at the auto show on Wednesday, signaling its long-term commitment to China’s competitive EV landscape. The car, however, will not go on sale immediately.
