KATHMANDU: Even as electric vehicles continue to gain momentum in Nepal, two new internal combustion engine (ICE) cars are set to debut in the domestic market next week.
Japanese automaker Mazda and German brand Volkswagen are unveiling their latest petrol-powered models at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo which kicks off in Kathmandu on August 6.
Mazda’s new premium SUV, the CX-60, will go on sale in Nepal, starting August 6, according to an official of Paramount Motors, the authorized Mazda distributor in Nepal. The all-wheel drive CX-60 is powered by a 2.5-liter petrol engine delivering up to 190 brake horsepower and 261 Nm of torque. The SUV features a high-end interior and a long list of modern features.

Mazda CX-60 is an all-wheel drive SUV, while Virtus is Volkswagen’s entry-level sedan.
Paramount Motors has not made pricing details of the CX 60 public.
Volkswagen is also launching it Virtus sedan at the Nepal Mobility Expo. According to Pooja International, which represents Volkswagen in Nepal, the India-made sedan is powered by a 1.0-litre TSI engine and showcases the German automaker’s latest design language.
Targeted at younger buyers, the Virtus features a modern cabin layout with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, three-spoke steering wheel, sunroof, wireless charging and an eight-speaker audio system.
The sedan is priced at around Rs 5.5 million.
