KATHMANDU: Two-wheeler exports surged by a whopping 50.11% in fiscal year 2024/25.
Data released by the Department of Customs on Tuesday shows Nepal imported 201,952 two-wheelers in 2024/25, up from 124,534 units in the previous fiscal year.
Most of these imports were from India as Indian two-wheeler brands like Bajaj, Honda, Hero, TVS and Royal Enfield are immensely popular in Nepal.
The rise in imports reflects a gradual recovery in the country’s economy, which has had a positive impact on two-wheelers sales, automobile dealers say.
Two-wheelers in the 125cc category recorded the highest growth rate, with imports surging by 50% to 124,250 units
After a sharp decline following the COVID-19 pandemic, Nepal’s two-wheeler market is showing signs of recovery. Two-wheeler imports before the pandemic hovered above 350,000 units.
Two-wheelers in the 125cc category recorded the highest growth rate, with imports surging by 50% to 124,250 units, compared to 84,627 units in the previous fiscal year. This category includes the most popular models of scooters and motorcycles sold in Nepal.
Meanwhile, the 125cc-200cc segment remained relatively stable, whereas the above 200cc segment showed signs of growth.
