KATHMANDU: It is common for automakers to introduce two or three variants of each model to cater to the diverse preferences and budgets of customers. Since each variant comes with different features, their prices also vary.

While electric vehicles (EVs) have fewer variants compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, the price gap between them tends to be wider. This is mainly due to differences in battery capacity and, in some cases, motor power.

The size of the battery plays a crucial role in determining the price of an EV. Since motor output also affects taxation, the price difference between the two variants can be significant.

Cimex Inc, the authorized BYD distributor in Nepal, recently introduced the Atto 1 hatchback in Nepal in two trims — Dynamic and Premium. Positioned as BYD’s entry-level model in Nepal, the Atto 1 received strong bookings following its official launch at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo.

After long delays caused by the closure of border points with China, deliveries have finally started in Kathmandu.

Here, we take a closer look at the two trims of the Atto 1 to see which one offers better value for buyers.

Price Difference of Over Rs 400,000

The price difference between the trims is more than Rs 400,000. The Atto 1 Dynamic variant is priced at Rs 2.895 million, while the Premium variant costs Rs 3.299 million.

This means customers will have to pay Rs 404,000 more if they are buying the top-end trim.

Battery Capacity

The Dynamic variant comes with a 30.08 kWh battery, while the Premium offers a larger 38.88 kWh pack. Both versions, however, use the same 45 kW motor.

For the extra Rs 404,000, buyers get an 8 kWh higher-capacity battery which offers a longer driving range.

For those who need to drive longer distances daily, the Premium is more practical. But for city commuters, the Dynamic could be the appropriate choice.

Interior and Comfort Features

The Premium variant also offers additional cabin features. It comes with a four-way adjustable steering column, compared to the two-way adjustable option in the Dynamic.

Similarly, the driver’s seat in the Premium is a six-way power-adjustable unit, while the Dynamic gets a four-way manually adjustable seat.

Wireless charging is also exclusive to the Premium trim.

Safety Features
The number of airbags differs between the two trims.

The Dynamic is equipped with four airbags (two front airbags and side curtain airbags), while the Premium has six airbags, including two side airbags for the driver and front passenger.

Conclusion
Both the Dynamic and Premium variants of the BYD Atto 1 share the same size and exterior styling. The real differences lie in battery capacity, driving range, comfort, and safety features.

Buyers who prioritize long-range capability and enhanced safety should consider the Premium, while those who primarily drive in the city will find the Dynamic a cost-effective choice.
