KATHMANDU: Toyota Boshoku has introduced a premium desk chair inspired by the driver’s seat of the Toyota Crown. The company is entering the home furniture segment for the first time with this product.
Toyota Boshoku is a key supplier within the Toyota Group and holds a leading share in Japan’s car seat market. It has also produced premium seats for Shinkansen bullet trains.
The new chair is based on seats developed at the company’s Sanage plant in Aichi, Japan. It uses the same comfort-focused design used in long-distance driving.
The chair removes unnecessary components like airbags but keeps features such as seat ventilation and heating. It also gets a newly developed electronic control unit. A USB port is integrated into the seatbelt buckle area to retain the automotive feel.
The product offers adjustable backrest, lumbar support, and seating position, similar to a car seat. It also includes a rechargeable battery placed under the seat. The heating system can run at maximum output for up to 7.5 hours on a one-hour charge.
Height adjustment and armrests were developed in collaboration with Itoki, a major office furniture company in Japan.
Toyota Boshoku will sell the chair through six Crown specialty stores, including locations in Tokyo and Nagoya. Orders will be accepted until the end of June, with deliveries starting in September.
The chair is priced at around $3,100 and will be limited to just 70 units. Buyers will be selected through a lottery if demand exceeds supply.
The project also aims to strengthen Toyota Boshoku’s brand visibility among consumers by leveraging the legacy of the Crown, which marked its 70th anniversary in 2025.
