KATHMANDU: Hyundai’s all-electric flagship SUV, the IONIQ 9, has been named ‘Germany’s Premium Car of the Year 2026’, just three months after its market debut.
The recognition marks another milestone in Hyundai’s growing presence in the global premium EV segment.
The IONIQ 9 was selected by an independent panel of 40 automotive journalists who praised its aerodynamic design, advanced 800V fast-charging system, and luxurious three-row interior that delivers a lounge-like experience. The SUV stood out for its spacious cabin, innovative features, and focus on human-centered comfort.
“The IONIQ 9 reflects what we stand for — innovation, progressive design, and a commitment to sustainable mobility,” said Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe. “This award reinforces our vision to keep pushing boundaries in electrified mobility.”
Built on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 9 supports ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes and offers a driving range of over 500 km (WLTP, depending on variant). It features Hyundai’s latest Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) with AI-based voice recognition and sustainable interior materials.
As Hyundai’s flagship EV, the IONIQ 9 sets new standards for performance, technology, and efficiency in the premium segment.
Its global success also reflects Hyundai’s growing EV footprint in Nepal, where models like the Kona EV and IONIQ 5 lead the market through Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt. Ltd.
The ‘German Car of the Year (GCOTY)’ is among Europe’s top automotive honors, and the IONIQ 9’s win in the Premium category highlights Hyundai’s global leadership in electric mobility.
