KATHMANDU: India’s leading car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, has announced a major safety upgrade across its lineup. All its models, including the entry-level vehicles like the Eeco, Alto K10, and Celerio, will now come equipped with six airbags as standard.
While this is big news for consumers, the addition of these safety features is expected to increase vehicle prices.
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch its first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, soon.
The upgrade has already been implemented in models such as the Eeco, Alto K10, Celerio and Brezza. Other models, including the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, Ignis, XL6, and S-Presso, are next in line, according to the company. As of now, the Baleno and Fronx offer six airbags only in their top variants.
Maruti Suzuki vehicles are immensely popular in Nepal, commanding approximately 45% of the market share in the passenger car segment. Despite the rapid rise of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country, Maruti Suzuki’s internal combustion engine (ICE) models continue to enjoy a loyal customer base.
Models like the Alto, which is known for its performance even on rugged terrain, are a common sight in Nepal. From city taxis to off-road drives, Maruti vehicles are used across a wide range of conditions. The company also has an extensive sales and service network, which has made it one of the most trusted automotive brands in Nepal.
