KATHMANDU: As the announcement of the budget for fiscal year 2025/26 draws near, electric vehicle (EV) dealers have begun rolling out attractive pre-budget offers to woo buyers.

Each year, speculation around possible tax hikes on EVs drives customers to make early purchases. Since buyers look to secure vehicles before potential tax hikes through the budget make their preferred cars dearer, dealers accelerate imports and launch special promotions to boost sales ahead of the budget release.

This year is no exception. Customs yards like Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi, along the Nepal-China border, are already seeing an influx of new EVs. With the government facing financial challenges due to low revenue collection, talks of possible tax hikes in the new fiscal year have surfaced again. This has prompted EV dealers to attract consumers with aggressive offers.

Deepal, through its official distributor MAW Vriddhi Autocorp, has unveiled an attractive offer, which includes the best-ever cash discount and exchange bonus, free road tax for fiscal year 2025/26 and comprehensive Auto Plus insurance. According to the company, Buyers will also receive a complimentary 7kW wall charger and a 3kW travel charger. Customers can purchase Deepal cars with a 20% down payment at a competitive interest rate of 8.99%. The offer, which started last week, will run for 45 days, right up to the budget announcement.

Similarly, SPG Automobiles, the official distributor of Omoda and Jaecoo, has launched its pre-budget campaign under which customers can own an EV with a minimum down payment of Rs 10.39 lakh and benefit from an annual interest rate of 8.05%. The package includes savings of up to Rs 515,000, one-year free insurance, an eight-year or 160,000 km warranty on the motor and battery, free road tax for a year, and a 7kW wall charger.

SPG is currently offering the Omoda E5 and Jaecoo J6 models in Nepal.

Meanwhile, Paramount Motors, the official distributor of MG, is also preparing to introduce its pre-budget offer. According to Sunil Kshetri, the General Manager of Paramount Motors, discussions are underway to finalize the details of the offer.

Several other EV brands are expected to launch similar campaigns in the coming days. These pre-budget promotions are beneficial for both buyers and automobile distributors. While customers get better deals, the companies are able to boost sales and manage inventory before any fiscal policy changes take effect.
