KATHMANDU: Volkswagen Group is considering selling Ducati as part of a major review of its businesses and investments, according to Bloomberg.
Audi CEO Gernot Dollner said Ducati is among around 600 businesses being reviewed out of roughly 2,000 businesses and holdings within the Volkswagen Group. However, he said no decision has been made.
Ducati, which is part of Audi, was acquired by Volkswagen in 2012. The Italian motorcycle maker sells around 50,000 motorcycles a year.
Ducati generated about $1.08 billion in revenue and $61 million in operating profit last year. Bloomberg Intelligence estimates the company could be worth around $1.5 billion based on valuations of similar companies.
Volkswagen is reviewing its portfolio as part of a broader restructuring aimed at improving competitiveness. The company plans to reduce its portfolio of businesses and holdings by roughly one-third.
Ducati has strengthened its position in motorcycle racing, winning six consecutive MotoGP constructors’ championships since 2020. The brand also has a strong and loyal customer base.
Volkswagen previously considered selling Ducati in 2017 but abandoned the plan following opposition from German labor representatives.
