KATHMANDU: BYD is discontinuing its rotating infotainment screens, saying the feature is no longer practical as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto don’t function in a vertical layout. The company said the change is meant to improve the user experience and maintain a cleaner, simpler interior design.

The new Atto 2 has already dropped the rotating screen. Other models will also move to a fixed landscape display.

BYD vice president Stella Li said customers liked the feature, but it was not used much. She added that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work best in landscape mode. A rotating screen creates problems for these apps.

BYD had earlier promoted the portrait mode as useful for navigation and ease of use. But most new cars use landscape screens, and smartphone systems only support this layout.

Li said BYD wants deeper partnerships with Apple and Google. A fixed screen makes the integration smoother.
