KATHMANDU: BYD is rolling out its 240 kW peak motor (TZ200XYAT) to more mid-range electric cars priced from USD 14,150 to 21,250. The company says the unit will now power a wider range of models as part of its latest drivetrain upgrade.
The TZ200XYAT is a permanent-magnet synchronous motor. It delivers 120 kW rated output and 240 kW peak performance, roughly 326 hp. It supports BYD’s 800V high-voltage architecture and the Megawatt Flash Charge system. The design allows motor windings to take part in fast charging.
The motor features direct cooling, ten-layer flat-wire stator windings, 0.2 mm stator steel sheets, lightweight eddy-current sensors, and variable-flux tech. BYD has also improved energy management and integrated control systems in its mid-range EV lineup.
The company says the TZ200XYAT is distinct from the larger TZ220XY motors, which are used in bigger or performance-focused dual-motor models with higher outputs.
The new 240 kW motor uses in-house design and SiC technology. It works with e-Platform 3.0 Evo and the new 1000V Super e-Platform. BYD notes that the unit is aimed at mid-range passenger EVs but can also support larger vehicles, including buses.
