KATHMANDU: China has introduced new national standards for recycling EV batteries, achieving up to 99.6% recovery of nickel, cobalt, and manganese, and 96.5% for lithium in pilot programs, according to Chinese media.
The General Administration of Market Supervision has approved five new recycling standards, raising the total to 22. These cover battery dismantling, energy detection, and management procedures.
A new national committee is being formed to standardize recycling across automotive, marine, and energy storage sectors, with more standards on the way.
China is also contributing to global EV battery recycling standards through the IEC, with Chinese experts leading new international projects.
Authorities have also banned the reuse of retired EV batteries in e-bikes and are enforcing stricter safety standards for lithium batteries to promote safe and sustainable recycling.
