KATHMANDU: Dongfeng Automobile is set to introduce a 350 Wh/kg solid-state battery in September 2026. A 0.2 GWh pilot production line is already operational, and vehicles using this battery are expected to deliver over 1,000 km of range.
The battery uses a high-capacity cathode, silicon-carbon anode, and a solid electrolyte. It performs better in extreme cold, retaining over 72% energy at –30°C, and has passed a 170°C safety test, exceeding national standards.
At the 2025 World Power Battery Conference, Dongfeng also showcased the Mach Super-kV Pure-Electric Platform. It features a 1200 V system, an in-house 1700 V silicon-carbide module, and supports 2 MW ultra-fast charging. According to Dongfeng, the system can add 2.5 km in one second and 450 km in five minutes, along with self-charging and contactless payment.
The platform includes a 30,000 rpm motor and advanced safety features such as a reinforced battery structure, 48-hour thermal monitoring, and a motor-triggered fuse.
Dongfeng is also developing a fast-charging version of the 350 Wh/kg battery for 2027, and is researching a future 500 Wh/kg solid-state battery, according to Chinese media reports.
