KATHMANDU: Hyundai has unveiled a new electric model named ‘Elexio’, targeting Chinese market.

Bejing Hyundai Motor Company Ltd, Hyundai’s joint venture with Beijing Automotive Group Ltd (BAIC), produced the Elexio using its first dedicated pure electric platform. Beijing Hyundai is positioning the car, which took the company five years to develop, as a ‘new quality force’ vehicle.

The car features modern aesthetics, advanced technology, and high-quality materials. It is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of 2025.

The Elexio boasts a distinctive exterior design, featuring a crystal-designed daytime running light and a connected light strip with an illuminated logo at the front. The two-tone design on the front bumper gives the SUV a bold and premium appearance.

The SUV is expected to have a driving range of 700 kilometers on a single charge.

The side profile of the Elexio includes layered lines and pronounced wheel arches which gives the car a muscular look. A floating roof, unique D-pillar design, hidden door handles, and multi-spoke 20-inch wheels make the car stand out in the crowded electric SUV market.

The rear also features connected light strip. It has a hidden rear wiper and a minimalist design with the Hyundai logo integrated into the rear window. Although details about Elexio’s interior has not been made public, the cabin is expected to have a minimalist design with premium colors, modern seats and a wraparound cockpit design.

The Elexio will feature a new concept driving information display powered by a Qualcomm 8295P chip, supporting online navigation, entertainment, smartphone connectivity, OTA updates, voice interaction and remote control functions. It includes Level 2+ ADAS features for intelligent driving.

Beijing Hyundai plans to introduce automated assisted driving and memory parking by 2025 and upgrade to urban assist driving functions by 2026. Hyundai plans to use Huawei’s Harmonious Intelligent Mobility Solution in the Elexio.

Although the company has not provided details about the battery or motor, the car is expected to have a driving range of 700 kilometers on a single charge.
