KATHMANDU: Maruti Suzuki is reportedly planning to expand its MPV portfolio in the second half of this decade. The company is said to be preparing a new hybrid MPV for the Indian market, with a possible launch timeline around 2029.

The upcoming model carries the internal codename YVF. It will be different from the current Ertiga and XL6. Reports say the new MPV will be inspired by the Suzuki Solio sold in Japan.

The YVF is expected to be a compact MPV, measuring just under 4 meters in length. Wheelbase is tipped at 2.48 meters, making it smaller than the Renault Triber. It is also likely to feature sliding rear doors.

Media reports suggest the YVF could become India’s first hybrid compact MPV. It may use the Z12E 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol-hybrid engine seen in the Solio. The setup is expected to be paired with a CVT gearbox. Unlike the Japanese model, all-wheel drive is unlikely.
