KATHMANDU: MG has revealed the updated MG4 EV in China ahead of its official launch on September 5. The new model comes with noticeable improvements in design, size and technology, as reported by Chinese media.

The latest MG4 is now larger measuring 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width and 1,551 mm in height. It has a 2,750 mm wheelbase. The EV runs on a rear-mounted 120 kW permanent magnet motor and uses a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by Rept Battery Energy. Its top speed is 160 km/h. Battery range has not yet been announced.

One major highlight is the possible use of a semi-solid-state battery. MG brand director Chen Cui hinted that this technology could be included. If confirmed, it would improve battery safety, lifespan and energy storage.

The new MG4 also features a smart cockpit co-developed with Oppo. It supports voice commands, gesture controls and smartphone mirroring across Oppo, Huawei and Apple devices.

On the outside, the car gets a closed front grille, arrow-style taillights, a full-width rear light bar and keeps its 17-inch alloy wheels and traditional door handles. It is built on SAIC’s Nebula EV platform and has its charging port on the front-left side.

Although sales in China have been slow, only 13 units sold in February 2025. The MG4 has done well in international markets. MG plans to launch 13 new electrified models worldwide within the next two years. This expansion is backed by an investment of USD 14 billion. The MG4 will remain a key model in markets like Europe, India and Southeast Asia.

In Nepal, Paramount Motors is currently offering the MG4 EV in the hatchback segment. It comes with a rear-wheel-drive setup and is available in two variants, priced from Rs. 4.149 million to Rs. 4.999 million. However, the launch of the updated model in Nepal has not been confirmed yet.
