KATHMANDU: Nissan has launched the Tekton midsize SUV in India, with prices starting at 1.049 million Indian rupees (ex-showroom) and going up to 1.859 million Indian rupees for the top-spec variant. Customer deliveries in India will begin on July 20.

The Japanese automaker has also confirmed that the Tekton will make its Nepal debut at the upcoming NAIMA Mobility Expo, where it is expected to be one of the key new launches.

The Tekton enters one of India’s most competitive SUV segments, taking on established rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor.

Built on the same platform as the Renault Duster, the Tekton adopts Nissan’s latest design language inspired by the Patrol SUV. It features an upright front fascia with a full-width LED light bar, C-shaped LED daytime running lights and a chrome-accented grille. The SUV rides on 18-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear, the Tekton shares several design cues with the Duster, including connected LED taillights and a sculpted tailgate with prominent ‘Tekton’ badging. The rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillars, while the bumper gets a silver skid-plate-style insert.

Inside, the SUV offers a dual-tone light gray and burgundy cabin accented with rose gold trim. The dashboard houses a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate, and six-way adjustable ventilated front seats.

On the safety front, the Tekton comes equipped with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The SUV is available with two turbo-petrol engine options. The 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine produces 99 bhp and 166 Nm of torque and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The more powerful 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit develops 161 bhp and 280 Nm, and is offered with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
