The second chapter of the “Discover Nepal on Two Wheels” series takes riders deeper into the eastern hills, this time heading toward Phaplu, a scenic gateway to the lower Solukhumbu region.

It is known for its peaceful landscape, rich Sherpa culture, and proximity to several popular trekking routes.

Phaplu offers a rewarding mix of natural beauty and Himalayan heritage for touring enthusiasts. Located at an altitude of around 2,400 meters, it is one of the few settlements in the region with a domestic airport and serves as a key transit point for trekkers heading toward the Everest region.

The town provides clear views of major peaks such as Numbu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and even Everest on clear days.

Along the way, riders can explore traditional Sherpa villages, monasteries, pine forests, and high-altitude viewpoints.

Reaching Phaplu on two wheels is an adventure in itself. Although riding is more economical than flying, the journey demands patience due to mixed road conditions.

Riders will encounter a combination of paved sections and rough off-road trails, especially after Okhaldhunga.

The average speed in the hilly terrain remains around 30–40 km/h, so proper time management is essential. The route becomes increasingly scenic after Dhap, with the stretch between Pattale and Garma offering some of the most impressive Himalayan views in eastern Nepal.

From Kathmandu, the 269 km route follows Dhulikhel → Khurkot → Ghurmi → Okhaldhunga → Dhap → Pattale → Phaplu.

Those riding from the eastern region can access Ghurmi via the East–West Highway → Sunkoshi Bridge → Okhaldhunga Highway → Dhap → Pattale → Garma → Phaplu.

Depending on the starting point, riders typically require three days to complete the trip, with distances ranging from 264 km to 298 km.

The highest elevation along the route reaches approximately 2,413 meters, and basic hotels and lodges are available in Phaplu for overnight stays.

With its blend of Himalayan scenery, cultural richness, and adventurous riding terrain, the Phaplu–Solukhumbu route is an ideal destination for those seeking both exploration and tranquility.

This journey continues the spirit of discovering Nepal’s diverse landscapes on two wheels, offering riders a memorable experience in one of the country’s most captivating mountain regions.
