KATHMANDU: Chinese EV giant BYD has launched the right-hand drive variant of its smallest electric car, the Seagull, under the name Atto 1 in Indonesia.
The car was launched during the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show 2025 held in Jakarta earlier this week.
The Atto 1 marks the debut of the Seagull in right-hand drive markets, paving the way for its imminent arrival in Nepal. According to sources at Cimex Inc, the official distributor of BYD in Nepal, the car will be unveiled during the upcoming NADA Auto Show that kicks off on August 20.
The car, however, will retain its original name, BYD Seagull, in the Nepali market. The Seagull is sold in other international markets under names like Dolphin Mini and Dolphin Surf.

The compact hatchback has been launched in Indonesia as Atto 1.
In Indonesia, the Atto 1 is offered in two variants — Dynamic with a 30.08 kWh battery and Premium with a 38.88 kWh battery. The NEDC-certified range of these two variants is 300 km and 380 km, respectively.
The compact hatchback is 3,780 mm long, 1,715 mm wide and 1,580 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2500 mm. While the international variant features a 55 kW motor, it is expected that the Nepal version will come with a 50 kW electric motor.
The car’s design follows BYD’s minimalistic styling and features a high-tech smart cockpit. It features a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, and a tilt and telescopic steering wheel.
The Seagull is expected to compete directly with Tata Tiago EV and Wuling Binguo in the Nepali market. The car is expected to launch with price tag in the range of Rs 2.5 million to Rs 3 million.
