Superbikes priced above Rs 2 million available in Nepal

KATHMANDU: The use of high-capacity motorcycles, commonly known as super bikes, remains very limited in Nepal. High import duties and taxes imposed by the government have pushed prices sharply upward, keeping these motorcycles out of reach for most buyers. As a result, super bikes are largely confined to wealthy enthusiasts.

In the Nepali market, most super bikes are priced above Rs 2 million. This places them well above the cost of entry-level cars, making super bikes comparatively more expensive than small passenger vehicles. Due to this pricing structure, the segment remains inaccessible to the middle class.

Motorcycles priced above Rs 2 million usually fall into the sport, touring, or high-performance categories. These models are known for strong engine performance, advanced electronics, and sophisticated engineering.

However, demand is driven more by passion than practicality, with ownership limited to a small group of collectors and performance-focused riders.

Currently, around a dozen international brands offer super bikes in Nepal. These include Ducati, BMW, MV Agusta, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Benelli. Most manufacturers import super bikes only after confirmed customer bookings, although a few select models are available in showrooms.

Except for Honda, Yamaha, and Benelli, most brands sell only motorcycles above 600cc in Nepal. In contrast, Honda, Yamaha, and Benelli also offer smaller displacement models alongside their premium super bike lineup.

Brand-wise availability in Nepal

Ducati motorcycles are distributed in Nepal by Turbo Motors. The Italian brand offers high-capacity models priced from around Rs 3 million to over Rs 10 million. Available models include the Monster, Scrambler, XDiavel, Panigale, Hypermotard, and Multistrada.

BMW’s adventure and sport motorcycles are available in Nepal, with prices starting above Rs 4 million. Himalayan Motorrad is the official distributor for BMW Motorrad in the country.

Honda remains one of the most recognized motorcycle brands in Nepal. Syakar Trading Company, the brand’s authorized distributor, offers premium models such as the CRF and CBR series priced above Rs 2 million. Older models like the Honda Hornet, introduced years ago, are still seen on Nepali roads.

MAW Rides, Yamaha’s official distributor, is expanding its focus on the premium segment. Yamaha is developing a dedicated big bike showroom in Nepal. Models such as the R1, MT series, Tenere, and Bolt are expected, with prices exceeding Rs 3 million.

Suzuki’s Hayabusa remains one of the most iconic super bikes globally. Older versions of the Hayabusa, along with GSX naked sport models, are still present in the Nepali market.

Benelli offers relatively more affordable super bike options in Nepal. KTM International distributes Benelli motorcycles, including the TNT 600i and the 752S. The TNT 600i is priced at Rs 2.358 million, while the 752S costs Rs 2.515 million.

Brands such as Harley-Davidson, MV Agusta, and Kawasaki currently do not operate official showrooms in Nepal. Older models from these manufacturers can still be seen on the roads. Customers interested in new models usually purchase them through third-party importers or dealers handling other premium motorcycle brands.
