KATHMANDU: Tata Motors has taken a strategy of making electric vehicles a mainstream choice for Indian consumers.

The company has confirmed that the Harrier.ev will be launched on June 3, followed by the much-anticipated Sierra.ev.

While the Harrier.ev retains much of the design of the diesel version, it features a sleeker grille, a restyled front bumper and aerodynamic alloy wheels. Although the cabin remains largely familiar, Tata has given subtle updates to match its electric identity. Built on Tata’s new Acti.ev Gen 2 platform, the Harrier.ev comes with dual motors for all-wheel drive and delivers 500 Nm of torque. It is expected to offer a range of over 500 km on a single charge.

In addition to launching new models, Tata is refreshing its existing EV lineup to offer better performance, features and overall value. These moves are part of a broader effort to strengthen Tata’s leadership in the EV market and accelerate adoption across India.

Although Tata’s EV sales witnessed a slight drop to 66,561 units in 2024 compared to 66,690 units in 2023, Tata remains undeterred about the future of EV. In FY2025–26, India plans to expand the EV ecosystem and implement focused strategies to boost adoption and improve product offerings.

Despite its strong EV focus, Tata is also updating its internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup. Hatchbacks and SUVs are receiving upgrades, supported by targeted marketing and stronger customer outreach. Tata is also expanding its dealership by adding more engaging showrooms in key cities.

Tata’s larger vision is to lead India’s transition to cleaner transportation. That vision extends to Nepal as well, where Tata has emerged as a dominant force in the EV market. Electric models like the Nexon, Tiago, Tigor and Punch have gained widespread popularity in Nepal. Sipradi Trading, Tata’s official distributor in Nepal, has a dedicated EV service center. It has also deployed a fast-charging network across the country.

Tata’s electric vehicles are also performing well on Nepal’s challenging roads, making them a reliable and practical choice for EV lovers.
