KATHMANDU: Tata Motors is preparing to introduce petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari, with the SUVs set to launch on December 9, 2025.
The Harrier and Safari petrol have been in the news ever since Tata unveiled its brand-new ‘Hyperion’ 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine at Auto Expo 2023.
The new 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine delivers performance comparable to the current 2.0-litre turbo-diesel unit. It develops 168 BHP at 5,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque between 2,000-3,500 rpm. Tata is expected to offer the engine with both manual and automatic transmission options.
In terms of pricing, the new Harrier and Safari petrol variants are expected to be positioned below their diesel counterparts. They will compete with SUVs such as the MG Hector/Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700, and Jeep Compass.
The new 1.5-litre T-GDI engine will make its first appearance on the upcoming Tata Sierra on November 25, ahead of the Harrier and Safari petrol launch.
