KATHMANDU: Tesla has announced openings for autonomous vehicle operators in Delhi and Mumbai. The move highlights India’s complex traffic as a key testing ground for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system.

According to Tesla’s job posting, selected operators will drive engineering vehicles for long hours and gather audio and camera data. The work will include weekends and extended shifts to capture real-world driving conditions.

India’s congested urban streets are seen as one of the toughest environments for autonomous technology. Testing in such conditions may help Tesla refine its FSD system before expanding to other markets.

Tesla has not made similar hires in some regions where it recently launched programs, including the Philippines. The decision suggests a strategic focus on India’s unique driving challenges.

Currently, Tesla’s supervised FSD system is available in North America and China. A more advanced unsupervised version is limited to Robotaxi pilots in Austin and San Francisco.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said FSD Version 14 will be released in the coming weeks. He noted the update will feature 10 times more parameters and major improvements, aiming to reduce driver alerts once real-world safety is confirmed.
