KATHMANDU: Tesla has filed two new trademark applications in the United States for the long-awaited next-generation Tesla Roadster, signaling renewed progress towards production. The filings were submitted on February 3, 2026.

One trademark features an updated Roadster wordmark, while the other shows a stylized silhouette of the electric sports car. The new filings indicate that Tesla may be preparing for the model’s official debut.

Tesla first unveiled the second-generation Roadster in November 2017 alongside its electric semi-truck. At that time, CEO Elon Musk stated that the Roadster would launch in 2020 with a starting price of $200,000. The company claimed a top speed of over 250 mph and a 0-100 mph acceleration time of 4.2 seconds.

However, production timelines were repeatedly delayed. The Roadster has seen limited updates in recent years.

In its latest earnings report, Tesla confirmed that “preparations continue in North America for the production of the next-generation Roadster.” Musk also announced that a Roadster 2 demo event is scheduled for April 1. Production is expected to begin 12 to 18 months after the demonstration.

The new trademark filings suggest that the Tesla Roadster project is moving closer to reality after years of delays.
