Traffic fines soar to Rs 120 million in one month

KATHMANDU: The Traffic Police have intensified action against vehicles violating traffic rules. With the rise in accidents due to reckless driving, the police have stepped up enforcement efforts.

According to Nepal Police, traffic enforcement actions in the past month alone generated Rs 120.842 million in revenue. This amount came from fines imposed on over 100,000 vehicles during Ashar.

Compared to Jestha (mid-May to mid-June), fine collection in Ashar (mid-June to mid-July) rose by Rs 26.7 million. In Jestha, traffic enforcement had generated Rs 94.130 million.

According to the police, fines were imposed for offenses including speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, unnecessary honking, overtaking, lane crossing, overloading and failing to carry required documents.
