KATHMANDU: Traffic movement has resumed along the Syaphrubesi–Timure section of the Syaphrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road—the only road linking Nepal’s main customs point with China.
The section, which was washed away by floods on July 8 and July 29, has been repaired. Local authorities have allowed light vehicles to ply the road since Friday.
According to Khadga Lal Shrestha, chief of the Galchi–Trishuli–Mailung–Rasuwagadhi Road Project, the track has been cleared along a 14-kilometer stretch from Syaphrubesi to Timure. He added that efforts are underway to reopen the remaining 2 kilometers of road from Timure to the Nepal-China border point at Rasuwagadhi.

“It will still take some more time for large vehicles to operate regularly on the route because of ongoing monsoon rains and continuous river erosion,” Shrestha said, adding that the Department of Roads has deployed machines to cut through rock walls along the Timure–Rasuwagadhi section.
Meanwhile, Chinese authorities are working with a plan to restore the Friendship Bridge only after the Syaphrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road is repaired.
China has been building infrastructure at Lhendekhola. The pillars for the new Bailey bridge on the Chinese side have already been erected.
