KATHMANDU: The upcoming Freelander SUV, developed under the joint venture between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, has been spotted in leaked crash test images. The model is set to make its global debut on March 31, where the brand will also be officially unveiled.
The Freelander is positioned as a rugged new energy SUV. It is expected to be priced at around USD 58,000.
The SUV will use advanced technologies from leading suppliers. It will feature Huawei Qiankun ADS for driver assistance, a Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered cockpit, and battery packs from CATL.

The leaked images show a boxy design, similar to the Land Rover Discovery. The front gets square headlights and a closed-off grille. A clamshell hood and roof-mounted LiDAR are also visible. Additional sensors are likely placed around the body for ADAS functions.
At the rear, the SUV has an upright design with rectangular taillights and a clean tailgate with “Freelander” branding. A rear LiDAR unit is also expected.
Inside, the SUV features a modern layout. It gets a three-spoke steering wheel and a large floating touchscreen. A secondary “remote screen” is also visible on the dashboard. Physical buttons are placed below the screen for key controls.
Other highlights include an electronic gear selector, dual wireless charging, and extra storage space under the center console. The SUV will come with a 2+2+2 six-seat layout. The second row is expected to offer a “zero-gravity” seat function.

The Freelander will be offered in both BEV and EREV versions. All variants are likely to come with all-wheel drive. It is also expected to retain Land Rover’s off-road capability.
Full specifications will be revealed at the official debut. The model is planned as a global product, with a launch expected in the Middle East later this year.
