KATHMANDU : Nepal’s two-wheeler market made a strong comeback in the fiscal year 2025/26, with motorcycle and scooter imports reaching their highest level in four years.
According to data released by the Department of Customs on Thursday, imports of motorcycles and scooters increased by 30 percent compared to the previous fiscal year.
A total of 277,291 motorcycles and scooters (excluding mopeds) were imported during the fiscal year. The figure includes both completely built units (CBUs) and completely knocked down (CKD) kits imported for local assembly.
This is the highest import volume since FY 2021/22, when Nepal imported 282,099 units. Imports had declined in the following years before recovering in the last fiscal year.
Compared to FY 2024/25, imports increased by 63,996 units. Nepal had imported 213,295 motorcycles and scooters in the previous fiscal year.
The data shows that 227,834 units, or 82.16 percent, were imported as CKD kits for local assembly. Nepal currently assembles two-wheelers from more than half a dozen brands, including Royal Enfield, Bajaj, TVS, Yamaha, Hero, Honda, and CFMOTO.
Meanwhile, 49,457 units were imported as fully built vehicles.
Petrol-powered models continued to dominate the market. Of the total imports, 251,176 units were petrol-powered, while 26,115 units were electric two-wheelers.
Nepal imported motorcycles and scooters worth Rs. 36.01 billion during the fiscal year. The government collected Rs. 32.97 billion in revenue from these imports.
