KATHMANDU: BYD has begun internal testing of a new 1500 kW flash charging system in Shenzhen, China. The demonstration station near the company’s headquarters features high-power charging cabinets, liquid-cooled charging guns, and a layout similar to a fuel station forecourt.
Leaked specifications show the charger can deliver peak power of up to 1,500 kW with 1,500 A current on a 1,000-volt architecture. The chargers were reportedly limited to vehicles capable of accepting more than 1,000 kW input power.
Test vehicles included the BYD Tang 9, BYD Song Ultra, BYD Seal 07 and Denza Z9 GT. Charging automatically stops at around 97 percent battery capacity.
The Flash Charging mobile app is already available on Android and supports station search and plug-and-charge activation. Charging reportedly starts within about 10 seconds after plugging in.

Reports also indicate compatible vehicle buyers may receive up to 1,000 kWh of free electricity annually, although the policy has not been officially confirmed.
For comparison, Tesla V4 Superchargers in China support up to 500 kW peak power, while most public DC fast chargers range between 250 kW and 600 kW.
Reports suggest BYD could deploy more than 4,000 flash charging stations across China, with broader partner networks potentially exceeding 15,000 locations. The system is currently in internal testing, and detailed performance data is expected to be revealed at a future launch event.
