KATHMANDU: Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has restarted its production on Wednesday after a major cyberattack stopped its operations for more than a month.

The company said it will reopen its most important sites first, starting with the Wolverhampton engine plant and the battery assembly center in Hams Hall.

The cyberattack, which began in early September, forced JLR to shut down several systems and caused big supply chain problems. As a result, wholesale sales dropped 24.2% and retail sales fell 17.1% in the three months ending September 30.

JLR said the last quarter was “challenging.” Besides the cyberattack, the company was also affected by the phase-out of older Jaguar models and higher U.S. tariffs. Sales fell the most in the UK, followed by China, the Middle East and North Africa, Europe and North America.

Despite lower overall sales, JLR’s main models, the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Defender remained strong, making up nearly 77% of total wholesale sales.

CEO Adrian Mardell said the company was performing well before the cyberattack and is now focused on recovery. He said production is restarting gradually across sites in the UK and Slovakia.
