KATHMANDU: The District Police Office, Kaski, has intensified action against motorcycles with modified exhausts and loud noise under ‘Operation 365’.

The move comes amid rising complaints of noise pollution and public disturbance caused by fancy bikes revving through city streets, especially at night.

According to police, 87 motorcycles with altered appearances and modified silencers have been booked since the campaign began on October 13. The seized motorcycles have been restored to their original condition, and the riders fined as per traffic regulations.

Officers said the Motor Vehicle and Transport Management Act strictly prohibits any mechanical modification that increases exhaust noise or alters a vehicle’s original design. Despite this, many young riders continue to modify their bikes for louder exhausts.

In recent years, the number of fancy bikes on the roads has risen sharply, with many illegally modified to produce louder, “cracker-like” exhaust sounds.

Police have also detained 22 riders for misbehaving during enforcement checks, while 16 others were released after providing valid reasons. Authorities warned that both motorcycle owners and garages involved in such illegal modifications will face legal action.

Police reported that the number of riders causing noise pollution by tampering with motorcycle silencers has increased following the ‘Gen Z’ movement.

They added that ‘Operation 365’ will continue in the coming days to curb such activities.

Traffic police have urged riders to keep their bikes in their original condition and respect noise pollution laws to help maintain peace and order in the community.
