KATHMANDU: Three organisations have joined hands to launch a self-employment scheme by providing electric scooters to 1,000 individuals so that they can provide ride-sharing or courier delivery services.

The initiative is being jointly launched by Tapai Ko Bazar, eDrive Nepal and Parimita Group to create self-employment opportunities within the country. Under the initiative, 1,000 electric scooters will be provided to youths at a minimal daily rental rate equivalent to fuel expenses, they added.

Tapai Ko Bazar is Nepal’s first online platform dealing in bikes, scooters, cars, real estate and other assets. Similarly, eDrive Nepal is a ride-sharing company established entirely with Nepali investment, while Parimita Group is an experienced importer of modern two-wheelers.

The initiative aims to support those who do not own a vehicle or are currently using substandard second-hand vehicles by offering them an opportunity to earn up to Rs 72,000 per month through ride-sharing platforms.

The scooters will run on clean energy produced within the country, reducing reliance on imported fuel.

Sushil Sangraula, director of Tapai Ko Bazar, said the scheme offers three different opportunities for interested participants. “First, one can work as an employee directly under the scheme. Second, one can operate as a rider by renting a scooter daily and earning through ride-sharing. Third, one can participate as an investor by deploying their own electric scooter in the project to receive regular rental income,” Sangraula added.

The three organizations have entered into a collaboration with ride-sharing platform Yango to implement the program.

Sabin Bhattarai, CEO of eDrive Nepal, said the initiative, which has been started with 100% Nepali investment, aims to create self-employment opportunities for Nepali youths within the country.

The initiative will be formally launched on Saturday.
